FINAL PRESENTATION FOR THE FOLLY PROPOSAL
THE DESIGN:
THE FOLLY DESIGN REFLECTS THE GRAPHIC APPEARANCE OF A MUSIC EQUALIZER THROUGH APPLICATION OF MODULE SYSTEMS. INDIVIDUAL
MODULES ON THE OUTER LAYER ARE 3D WRAPPED WHILST THE INNER LAYER IS 2D WRAPPED TO ENHANCE THE STABILITY AND STRENGTH OF THE STRUCTURE.
THE EVENT:
DURING THE DAY, THE FOLLY WILL BECOME A PURE WHITE INSTALLATION. HOWEVER, IT COMES TO LIFE IN THE NIGHT.
THE FAN TRAIL IS MAINLY USED DURING THE EVENINGS AS A PATH BETWEEN THE CBD AND THE STADIUM. RECORDINGS OF THE DAYTIME SOUNDS/NOISE ARE TO BE PLAYED BACK WHILST PROJECTIONS OF THE LANDSCAPE (OF MYERS PARK) ARE SHOWN ON THE FACADE OF THE FOLLY. THIS CREATES AN EMOTIONAL RESPONSE AND RELATIONSHIP TO THE SITE AND PROVIDES THE
AUDIENCE WITH A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE OF THE SITE. AS CROWDS INCREASE, THE RECORDINGS WILL FADE INTO AN ELECTRONIC BASS MUSIC. THIS WILL ACTIVATE THE ILLUSION OF PULSING BEATS; WHICH ENGAGES THE PUBLIC WITH THE FOLLY.

HISTORY OF MYERS PARK
- Land dontated to AKL council by Sir Arthur M Myer.
- Previously a slum area (shanties / rubbish tips) from the 1880s ---> intensive / unplanned residential development in the valley of the stream (Ligar Creek) became a concern.
- Design by Thomas Pearson was carried out in 1914 and park was cleaned ---> beautiful weather on the opening day and large enthusiastic crowds attended.
- Park was transformed from a slum area into a park / playground (a spacious / green breathing space within an urban area) ---> transformed washland into Myers Park.
- Narrow park ---> sweeping stairway accesses; steep grassed slopes canopied with a mixture of plantations.
- Running downhill from the northern slope of K'rd ridge ---> park formed in 1914 out of an overgrown gully facing towards the Waitemata Harbour ---> gully = start of the stream (temporarily underground, open sewer).
- Reputation today ---> attracting society's debris at night (causes trouble) + no mention of historic structures in the park (the kindergarten or toilets = only photos can preserve integral parts of the original layouts / architecture if the park gets demolished / renovated).
